Gossip Girl

I'm so excited that Gossip Girl was back on our screens last night after what feels like forever. I didn't have time to watch it yet but curling up in front of the tv and a mug of hot chocolate is exactly what I plan to do tonight.

I love this recent still of the girls on set. I'm still trying to work out whose style I want to steal more, but you've got to love Serena's Moschino boots here.

Ethical fashion - These two words are currently being thrown about a lot and as a topic that has always interested me, I thought I'd tell you some more about it:

What is ethical fashion - and why? There are a number of different factors that come into play ...

  • Locally sourced - supporting local communities and requires less transportation.
  • Fair trade - non-exploitative, a fair price and wages given to workers. Ensures that workers have safe working conditions, do not work long hours and are able to afford food and healthcare.
  • Environmental impact - clothing manufactured using methods to reduce resource use, water, minimise pollution.
  • Organic - grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers, supporting the soil and environment.
  • Re-cycled and re-used - reduces the need to use up new resources.
  • Breaks down - uses materials that will eventually degrade in an environmentally friendly way e.g. shoes that use stitching instead of glue.
  • Dyes - uses low toxic dyes.
  • Packaging - minimal and degradeable or recyclable packaging.
You should definitely check out this ethical fashion website.

Kirsten Dunst has always been one of my favourite actresses and I am loving her recent photoshoot by Mario Testino where she adopts 1930s Hollywood Glamour. She looks lovely. Check out the rest of the shoot here.

Fair trade at Topshop

22nd February - 7th March is Fairtrade fortnight and in honour of this Topshop have launched a fantastic range of Fairtrade products cotton products. Including loads of really cute flirty summer dresses. This is great because not only are the dresses really cute and perfect for summer, but they are made from small-scale farms in developing countries where workers receive fair and stable prices for their crop and in addition to this the Fairtrade Premium which is democratically invested in projects which will benefit them and their local community. So, you should definitely treat yourself!

Summer plans

So I'm really desperate to get out of England this summer. I found this organisation called BUNAC that hope you arrange work and volunteer programmes around the world, it sounds really exciting. When I was a kid I used to go to America every year with my parents and with my brother, but I've always wanted to spend a longer period of time there. I looked at doing Camp America but I don't have enough experience working with children. BUNAC also run a similar programme but the same applies! :(. They also run this other programme though, called Work America where you can do almost any kind of work in the US on a 4 month J1 Visa, anywhere you like! I ordered their job directory, had a flick through and sent off my CV to companies they recommended, I really really hope I hear something back soon.

Miss Bimbo

I recently found out from a friend about the Miss Bimbo website. What it is basically, is a virtual fashion game. The point (if it can actually be defined as having one!) is to create the "hottest, coolest, most intelligent and talented bimbo the world has ever known." I'm ashamed to admit that for a couple of days I found it all ridiculously addictive, getting my bimbo a house, a boyfriend and a job, as well as competing with other players in the style stakes. However, everything comes at a cost and the fun for me came to an abrupt end when I quickly used up all my free "Bimbo dollars" and was invited to purchase some more. (Un)fortunately though, I didn't think there was any way I could possibly justify spending money on something so perfectly ridiculously and presumably aimed at girls in a younger age bracket than myself!

Today I signed in for the first time in a few months to be told that my bimbo is very sick and I need to pay to resucitate her. A tempting offer, but I think I'll pass and carry on living a bimbo free life. Though if you're looking for a good time waster or just for something addictive and completely silly you should probably check out the site.
